Summary: Setting up the RFX GATEWAY requires Bluetooth (for the initial handshake) and a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (for the permanent connection). Please verify your phone settings before starting the process to ensure a smooth setup.
Step 1: Pre-Setup Checklist
Before opening the App, ensure your environment is ready.
⚠️ Critical Requirements
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi: The RFX GATEWAY cannot connect to 5GHz networks. Have your 2.4GHz network name and password ready.
- Bluetooth: Must be ON (used to find the device).
- Location Services: Must be ON (Required by Android/iOS to scan for Bluetooth devices).
- App Version: Update to the latest version of the ThermoWorks App.
- Power: Turn the RFX GATEWAY on and place it right next to your phone for the setup process.
Step 2: Pairing Instructions
- Open App: Navigate to the Device Dashboard (or tap Menu Devices).
- Start Setup: Tap the + Device button.
- Select Model: Choose RFX GATEWAY from the list.
- Identify Device:
- The App will scan for nearby units.
- Select the unit that matches the Device ID printed on the side of your RFX GATEWAY (near the USB-C port).
- Wi-Fi Handoff:
- The App will connect via Bluetooth to "hand off" your Wi-Fi credentials.
- Enter your 2.4GHz Network Name and Password exactly (Case Sensitive!).
- Note: If using an Open Network (no password), leave the password field blank.
Step 3: Final Configuration
Once connected to Wi-Fi, the App will ask you to configure the hardware:
- Name the Gateway: Give it a unique name (e.g., "Patio Hub").
- Pro-Series Interval: Select how often the wired probe port updates (15, 30, or 60 seconds).
- Alarms: You can set High/Low alarms for the wired probe immediately, or adjust them later in the Channel Settings tab.
