RFX GATEWAY: Bluetooth Mode (Off-Grid Cooking)

Summary: While RFX GATEWAY is designed for Wi-Fi (Cloud) use, it features a Bluetooth Mode for "Off-Grid" cooking (e.g., tailgating or camping). In this mode, the RFX MEAT talks to the Gateway via radio, and the Gateway talks directly to your phone via Bluetooth.

How Bluetooth Mode Works

It is important to understand the connection chain:

RFX MEAT ➔ (Radio) ➔ RFX GATEWAY ➔ (Bluetooth) ➔ Your Phone

Note: The RFX MEAT probe does not connect directly to your phone. It must always communicate through the Gateway.

When to Use Bluetooth Mode

• Off-Site Events: Tailgating, camping, or competitions where Wi-Fi is unavailable.
• Internet Outages: If your home Wi-Fi goes down, the Gateway can switch to Bluetooth to keep your cook visible locally.

How to Connect

Automatic Switching

If your RFX GATEWAY is set up on Wi-Fi but loses the connection, it will automatically attempt to switch to Bluetooth if your phone is within range (approx. 95 ft line-of-sight).

Manual Connection

You can manually force a Bluetooth connection in the App:

1. Open the ThermoWorks App and go to the Device Settings for your RFX GATEWAY.
2. Locate the Bluetooth section.
3. Tap the yellow "Connect" button.
4. Once connected, you can optionally disconnect Wi-Fi if you wish to run purely in offline mode.
