Summary: If your RFX GATEWAY shows "INACTIVE" in the app, it has lost its connection to the cloud. This prevents it from adding new probes or updating current ones. The most common causes are power loss or Wi-Fi disconnection.
Step 1: Check Gateway Power
First, ensure the device is actually running.
- Connections: Ensure the USB power adapter and cable are securely plugged in.
- Charging Status: Check the app to see if it registers the power source.
- Tip: If it won't turn on, try swapping the USB cable or the wall adapter with another one (e.g., a phone charger) to rule out any broken components.
Step 2: Check Wi-Fi Connection
An 'Inactive' status indicates the Gateway has lost its connection to the ThermoWorks Cloud.
- LED Status: Look at the physical light on the Gateway.
- Green: Connected.
- Red: Disconnected. Re-run the Wi-Fi setup in the app or reposition your Gateway closer to your Wi-Fi router.
Step 3: Check the Probe
If the Gateway is active but won't add a probe, the issue might be the probe itself.
- Probe charged: Ensure your probe is fully charged. Place in the charging block for 20 minutes.
- Clean probe: Scrub the probe until shiny. Dirty contacts prevent it from charging.
- LED Check: Insert the probe into the charging block.
- Heartbeat (2 Flashes, Pause): Ready to pair.
- 10 Blinks / Rapid Blinks: Power error. Replace the AAA battery in the block or clean the probe again.
Step 4: The Hardware "Bench Test"
If both devices have power but still won't talk, perform this test to check the radio hardware.
- Placement: Lay a connected RFX MEAT probe directly ON TOP of the RFX GATEWAY.
- Check Signal: Look at the Signal Strength (RSSI) in the app settings.
- The Standard:
- Pass: Signal is between –21 dBm and –30 dBm.
- Fail: If the signal is significantly weaker while touching, the Gateway may be underperforming.
