RFX MEAT: High Temperature Warning (Over-Temp)
Summary: If your app screams a "Approaching Max Probe Temperature" warning, it means one of the internal sensors has reached 208°F (97.8°C). You must act immediately. This warning is a safety guard to prevent the RFX MEAT from failing or becoming damaged.
Why am I getting this warning?
The probe has a built-in safety alarm that triggers at 208°F.
- The Limit: The internal electronics (battery) are rated for a maximum of 212°F (100°C).
- The Buffer: The app warns you at 208°F to give you a "runway" to rescue the probe before permanent damage occurs.
Understanding the Temperature Limits
It is common to confuse the Ambient limit with the Internal limit.
| Part of Probe | Max Temp | What is Inside? |
|---|---|---|
| Upper Shaft / Handle (Above the Immersion Line) | 1000°F | Antenna & Ceramic. Designed to withstand flare-ups and high heat. |
| Lower Shaft / Tip (Below the Immersion Line) | 212°F | Battery & Sensors. These components must stay inside the meat (which stays cooler) to survive. |
What to Do When the Alarm Sounds
⚠️ Immediate Action Required
If you see this warning, heat is traveling down the shaft faster than the meat can insulate it.
1. Push Deeper: Ensure the probe is inserted fully up to the black immersion line.
2. Cool Down: If the meat is above 200°F (e.g., finishing a brisket), monitor closely.
