How to Boost RFX MEAT Signal Strength

Summary: Radio signals are easily blocked by dense materials or mismatched antenna angles. To improve range and battery life, ensure the RFX GATEWAY is positioned vertically, remove obstacles, and ensure the probe's handle isn't buried inside aluminum foil.

1. Antenna Orientation (Parallel Alignment)

Radio signals travel best when the transmitting antenna (the Probe) and the receiving antenna (the Gateway) are aligned in the same direction.

• The Rule: Align the probe and the RFX GATEWAY antenna parallel to each other.
• Best Practice: Ideally, keep the Gateway antenna Vertical (pointing up) and try to position the meat/probe so the handle is not pointing directly at the Gateway, but rather parallel to it.

2. Remove Obstacles (Line of Sight)

Every physical object between the probe and the Gateway reduces signal strength.

• Major Blockers: Metal siding, brick walls, thick smoker lids, and multiple interior walls.
• The Fix: Move the RFX GATEWAY to a window or a location with a clearer "Line of Sight" to the smoker.

3. Using Aluminum Foil

Aluminum foil is a metal sheet that effectively blocks radio waves (like a Faraday cage).

If you wrap your meat in foil, ensure the RFX MEAT probe antenna pokes through the foil and remains exposed. Do not wrap the antenna inside the foil.

• Try higher elevations (on a shelf rather than the floor).
• Try moving it away from other electronic interference (microwaves, routers).
