Step 1: Check the LED Status
Place the probe in the charging block and watch the Red LED light to determine the health of the connection.

Step 2: Clean the Probe ("The Shiny Test")
Problem: Smoke residue and polymerized grease create a varnish that acts as an electrical insulator.
Fix: Scrub the metal shaft with a mild abrasive pad until it is shiny. If it looks dull or bronze, it will not charge.
Step 3: Fix Rapid Battery Drain
If your probe charges successfully but dies too quickly during a cook, check these factors:
- Signal Strength: If your signal is "Fair" (-95 dBm) or worse, the probe uses extra power to "shout" to the Gateway. Move the Gateway closer to the smoker.
- Update Interval: In the App settings, increase the interval (e.g., from 1° to 3°) to extend battery life.
- Full Charge: Ensure you allowed the full 20 minutes for the probe to charge before starting.
Step 4: Hardware & Heat Check
- Replace the AAA Battery: Even if the LED lights up, a weak AAA battery in the charging block may not provide enough current to fill the probe.
- Heat History: Has the probe ever been used without being inserted up to the immersion line? If so, the internal battery of the probe may have suffered permanent heat damage, which significantly shortens its lifespan.
