RFX GATEWAY: Setup, Charging & Placement
Summary: The RFX GATEWAY is the bridge that connects your wireless probes to the internet. It requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection and the ThermoWorks App. Critical: Never attach the plastic Gateway directly to a hot smoker lid, and always charge using the provided USB A-to-C cable (C-to-C cables will not work).
Getting Started
Before using the system, ensure your smartphone's Bluetooth is turned on.
- Download: Get the ThermoWorks App (iOS/Android).
- Add Device: Open the App, tap +Device (bottom right), and follow the prompts.
- Wi-Fi: You will need to enter your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi credentials during setup.
Charging the Gateway
The Gateway has a 24-hour battery life but can be used while plugged in.
⚠️ Charging Cable Warning
You must use the included USB A-to-C cable. The RFX GATEWAY will not charge with high-speed USB-PD or C-to-C cables.
- Charge Time (5V): ~4 Hours (using included adapter).
- Charge Time (12V): ~12 Hours.
- Battery Banks: Compatible, but will not fast charge.
Placement & Safety
- Antenna: Keep the antenna Vertical for best reception.
- Heat Warning: Do NOT affix the Gateway to a hot smoker or grill hood. The plastic will melt. Mount it on a cool surface (like a pellet hopper).
Pro-Series Air Probe Care
Your kit includes a wired Air Probe for monitoring the pit temp.
- Temperature Limits:
- Cable: 700°F (370°C)
- Transition/Handle: 644°F (340°C)
- Probe Tip: 572°F (300°C)
- Pinching: Do not pinch the cable between a heavy grill lid and the main body. This crushes the wires. Use an access port or route through a gasket.
- Cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth. Do not submerge the cable.
